Pierre, S.D. – Hunter Roberts has been hired as the state's new Assistant Energy Director. He will join the staff of the Department of Tourism and State Development in early March.
"Hunter will be responsible for assisting in the state's efforts to make South Dakota a net exporter of energy, a goal of the state's 2010 Initiative," said Richard Benda, secretary, Department of Tourism and State Development.
Benda said an assistant director position was created because of the growing demand in this area. "We are seeing a tremendous amount of activity in the energy sector and it's important that we have the staff to support that," Benda said. A new energy director will be named in the near future. That person will replace Bill Even, who is currently serving as both the state energy director and the director of the Governor's Office of Economic Development.
"I am very excited to be joining the Department of Tourism and State Development as the Assistant State Energy Director," Roberts said. "I look forward to the great opportunity and challenge of making South Dakota a national player in the energy field."
Roberts is a native of Pierre, and holds a Masters Degree in Business Administration and Juris Doctorate from the University of South Dakota. "His background in business and law will be a tremendous asset for us. Hunter has outstanding research and analytical skills that will make him very effective in his new position," Benda said.
